Medals UK Ltd are pleased to present the Littleton Colliery 25 Year Commemorative Coin. Commissioned by Littleton Shaft Marker Committee, the coin will mark the 25th anniversary year of the closure of the Staffordshire Colliery and is itself a memento of the heritage of the area.
The commission was an involved process, with Ex-Littleton worker Chris Colbourne creating the front design, Medals UK attending committee meetings to offer support and guidance and The Littleton Shaft Marker Committee keeping the community updated throughout the process. The Littleton Colliery 25 Year Commemorative Coin will be sold to the community to raise money for Stone Markers that will be placed on the site of the shaft openings and will be inscribed with information and history of the area.
The coins measuring 50mm are of a Silver finish, presented in a traditional black presentation box and sealed in a protective plastic capsule to prevent tarnish. The coin itself features the town coat of arms on the reverse. The obverse features the image of a miners helmet along with the opening and closing dates of the pit and the words “Littleton Colliery – Forever in our hearts.”
